2017 Summer Financial Aid (2018 information TBA)

We can help you make it happen!

If you are an incoming or continuing UCR student, the Financial Aid office is here to help.

The Request for Summer Aid will be available to complete beginning on March 1, 2017 and will also be available on the UCR Financial Aid website. Please submit the Request for Summer Aid no later than April 1, 2017 to be considered on-time for the maximum sources of financial aid for summer session. Use your UCR student e-mail address to apply for summer financial aid on this site.  Note that if you do not receive a confirmation e-mail after submitting your application, you may have entered your e-mail address incorrectly.  Please re-enter your summer application data with your correct e-mail address to ensure that the Financial Aid Office receives your application.

Late applicants who do not submit the Request for Summer Aid will not be considered for Summer UCR Grant awards. You must also have completed a 2017-18 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or or California DREAM Application (for AB540 students) by the March 2nd deadline and you must submit all documents required to complete your financial aid application and complete IRS Data Retrieval, if required, by April 14, 2017 in order to be considered for summer financial assistance.

Eligibility

The following categories of students are eligible for summer financial assistance:

  • UC Riverside undergraduate students (Students from other UC's and visiting students should inquire about assistance with the Financial Aid office on their home campus)
  • Current Teaching Credential/M.Ed. students and new Teaching Credential/M.Ed. students who are admitted on a regular or conditional basis for fall quarter 2017.

NOTE: Undergraduate students with previously closed matriculations due to withdrawal, cancellation, dismissal, etc., who are readmitted for the fall quarter of 2017 are not eligible for summer financial aid. Readmission term is established at the discretion of the Dean’s office of the student’s college.  New Teaching Credential/M.Ed. students who are admitted on a provisional basis for fall quarter 2017 are not eligible for summer financial assistance.

On-time financial aid students (those who have filed all required forms & documentation by Financial Aid's posted deadlines): Summer Financial Aid will appear on the Student Account Information option on R’Web and will be applied to the summer term during the enrollment process. On-time summer aid applicants' classes will be protected until June 15th while awards are being processed. Starting June 16th, any fees not covered by Financial Aid are due in full by the end of business1 (or on the day the student enrolled). Any balance due that is not paid by the end1 of business will result in some or all of your classes being dropped.

Any subsequent Financial Aid disbursements (e.g., for awards disbursed in July) will be refunded through your student account.

1The Cashier’s office is open M-F 9-12 & 1-3pm; online payments can be made up to 9:00 PM (a non-refundable service fee is assessed for using online payment methods).

Undergraduate student enrollment requirements

In order to qualify for summer financial aid for Summer Sessions 2017, undergraduate students awarded Summer UCR Grants are required to enroll in at least 8 quarter units. Graduating seniors who will complete by the end of the winter quarter 2018 must enroll in at least 6 units for financial aid consideration.

Students should notify the Financial Aid Office of changes in summer enrollment plans. Students who never begin attendance in classes in the number of units or sessions reported on their summer aid application may have their summer awards reduced or cancelled.

Cross campus applicants (UCR students who plan to enroll at another UC campus during Summer Session 2017) must also meet these application deadlines and enrollment requirements.  This includes students who plan to enroll in summer travel study programs through other UC campuses. Cross campus students must submit transcripts of the work completed at other UC campuses within 30 days of the completion of their summer program to maintain eligibility for their summer disbursements from UCR.

Teaching Credential students who are concurrently enrolled in the M.Ed. program are eligible for Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loans and Federal Direct Grad PLUS Loans only and do not qualify for Federal Pell Grants or Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loans.  Contact the Graduate School of Education regarding other fellowship assistance that may be available in the summer.

Students enrolled in other special programs

Summer UCDC, Education Abroad, and UCR Summer Study Abroad participants may be eligible for Financial Aid but should NOT complete the Request for Summer Aid. The Financial Aid Office will be notified directly by your program of your summer enrollment. If you have completed your 2017-18 FAFSA application or California DREAM Application (for AB540 students) and submitted the required documents to the Financial Aid Office by our April 14, 2017 deadline, you will then be awarded any aid for which you may qualify.

Summer disbursements

Summer financial aid disbursements will begin approximately June 28, 2017 for students enrolled in sessions that begin on June 26, 2017, and refunds of any credit balance after summer fees and institutional charges are paid will be available approximately June 30, 2017.  Financial Aid refunds (for non-fee expenses) will not be available until after the first day of the summer session. Disbursements for students enrolled in sessions with later start dates will be issued in July, depending on the session start dates.  Financial aid awarded to students who drop below 8 units (6 units for graduating seniors) is subject to revision and students may be billed for any aid disbursed to pay fees or issued in a refund.
